Our ethos
At Apex, our aim is to help owners maintain the best possible welfare standards for their horse through the provision of top-class veterinary dentistry with a customer-based approach.
We are 'horse people' and fully understand that the thought of your horse undergoing dental treatment can seem very daunting. Rest assured that we are here to support owners through every part of the process, whether it be an appointment for a regular routine dental, or for an advanced treatment such as an extraction or a filling.
We are committed to raising awareness of dental disease to the public and to the education of veterinary and other professional colleagues through provision of lectures, talks and CPD.

Samantha Baker

RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in Equine Dentistry
Since graduation from The University of Liverpool in 2011, Sam has worked in general equine practice in and around her home in Lancashire. With a passion for helping horses with dental issues from the offset, Sam found herself developing a large dentistry caseload over several years. She has attended multiple courses including trips to Germany to learn advanced dentistry techniques, including modern keyhole extraction (MTE), fillings, and endodontics (root canal therapy).
She attained her post-graduate Certificate qualification (CertAVP) in Equine Dentistry in 2017. The certificate qualification is the prerequisite for becoming an Advanced Practitioner, together with at least 5 years of involved experience in this field. In 2019 she began working for an equine dentistry practice based in the South West, before starting out on her own journey as founding director of Apex in early 2021.
In her spare time, Sam enjoys the outdoors: she is a keen rider (dressage) and has recently enjoyed breeding two foals.
Robert Embery

Equine Dental vet
Rob graduated from The University of Bristol in 2014 and has since worked as an equine vet. He has a particular interest in dentistry, and relishes the chance to improve the standard of routine dental care by focusing solely on this area.
Before university, Rob served in the Royal Marines and went on several tours of duty including Afghanistan (twice), Iraq and Northern Ireland. Skills developed here mean that Rob is very thorough and calm, even with the most nervous patients.
Outside of work, Rob enjoys hill walking with his Sprocker Spaniel, Poppy, DIY home improvement and gardening.

We cover the whole of of the North West and beyond, offering mobile equine dentistry services at yards and at vet clinics in and around the following areas: Preston, Blackburn, Blackpool, Liverpool, Manchester, Cheshire, Cumbria, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
